Tidal Medway - Navigation Plans & Hazards
We have the benefit of some of the best water in the country for Rowing with over 20 miles of rowing river with limited obstructions. Despite this there are dangers on the river, most of which are highly dependent on weather or tidal flow and height.

The following maps highlight some particular areas of risks near the club that users of the water should be aware of. If you are going out in a scull (1x) or steering you are expected to know these charts. Anywhere Red or Orange and you are at high risk of gouging holes in the bottom of the boat. Any concerns please ask the club captain or safety officer for advice.

Low Tide (Below Wood

Low Tide Hazards
MTRC Clubhouse
Outside the club - note the shallow patch opposite the club on the other side of the river (Red marker is the club).

Also very shallow at the corner of the boat moorings between the club and the M2. This tends to be mud so less likely to be dangerous but again stay wide.

The M2 Bridge
Upstream of M2 Bridge - note the ridiculous sandbank in the middle of the river! Cross to the other side BEFORE the bridge and follow just off the moored boats if at low tide as per circulation pattern (that's why it is there). Cross back at the second gap in the boats.
Above the Cement Works
Beyond the cement works. Basically don't go there at low tide when the water is below the wood at the club. The mud moves around up here so don't take this chart as gospel.
As you can see there is a very narrow stretch of navigable water at the cement works and further up just before Wouldham.

Downstream of the Club & Rochester Bridge
Rochester Bridge - note the shallow patch immediately in line with the line of boats as you come up from the bridge toward the club outside Hathaway Court. The wrecked boat (funny triple cross symbol shown above) will be visible - it is very shallow a long way off that boat towards the middle of the river. Stay wide - don't go straight line to the club
